About EC Tenders
Whose contracts does EC Tenders cover?
EC Tenders provides you with information on all higher-value EU public sector tenders covered by the EU Directives, including those issued by the European Commission, central government departments, local and regional authorities and consortia, as well as other organisations governed by public law, such as utility companies in the oil, gas, water, energy, transport and telecommunications sectors.
Each year public supply, service and works contracts worth more than £300 billion are published by EC Tenders, providing new business opportunities on:
- Public works, supply and service contracts from all EU Member States
- Supply contracts (for the water, energy, transport and telecommunications sectors)
- Public contracts of the EU institutions
- European Development Fund contracts (ACP countries)
- Phare, Tacis and other contracts from Central and Eastern Europe
- Projects funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB), European Central Bank (ECB) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)
- Contracts from the European Economic Area (Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein)
- Contracts in accordance with the Government Procurement Agreement (GPA) concluded between the United States of America, Japan and Switzerland within the framework of GATT/World Trade Organisation (WTO)
- Foundations of European Economic Interest Groupings (EEIG)
- Public contracts for food aid
- Public contracts for flight services
What contract values does EC Tenders cover?
The value of contracts sourced by the OJEU and published in EC Tenders depends on the nature of the issuing authority and the nature of the contract.
Central government contracts for supplies and some services over approximately £100,000 (€148,000) are included. For local government the equivalent figure is over approximately £150,000 (€222,000). Service and supply contracts from the utility sector are listed when the value is over approximately £300,000 (€444,000); for works-related contracts, the threshold is approximately £3.5 million (€5.18 million) for all types of authorities.

- Automatic Profile Validation – ensures the profile you have entered is correct and accepted by the system – thereby getting contract opportunities to you faster.
- EC Tenders Archive – allows you to access an archive database storing all OJEU contract information (both notices and awards) for the last six years. (Added fee-based service.) Use the archive to source subcontracting opportunities and monitor competitor activity.
- EC Tenders Resources - through www.ectenders.com subscribers have access to a host of value-added services to help them successfully tender for government contracts.
How much is an EC Tenders subscription?
An annual subscription to EC Tenders costs only £476 (€705) plus VAT. This covers both the cost of the daily Alert email service and 24/7 access to the EC Tenders Online service at www.ectenders.com You will also receive Market Monitor and Translator FREE for your first year’s subscription – a saving of £485 (€718) plus VAT.
To help small companies, this annual subscription fee can be paid by bankers order at £119 (€176) per quarter.

Which contracts does EC Tenders not cover?
EC Tenders covers only those contracts issued via the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) S services. It therefore does not cover contracts from outwith the European Union (unless the contract is under a specific EU project). Neither does EC Tenders cover low-value contract opportunities from the UK, Europe or other countries, nor service-related opportunities which are specifically excluded under the EU Public Procurement Directives, including:
- Hotel and restaurant services
- Transport by rail and water and auxiliary transport services
- Legal services
- Personnel placement and supply services
- Investigation and security services, other than armoured car services
- Education and vocational education services
- Health and social services
- Recreational, cultural and sporting services
- Plus other services not specifically mentioned in the Directives
In addition, many contracts issued by Member State defence organisations are not included.
